High School Youth Ministry
Thank You Grace” For Your Continuing Support
By Jay and Deb Fuller Directors of Grace Senior High Ministry
Our focus within our youth group has always been 3-fold...spiritual, social, and service. This auction allows us to continue to provide this focus for our youth. We are totally self-funded and while a big and bold budget would afford us some benefits; we feel we do very well with what we are blessed to have been given. We are truly the benefactors of a loving congregation and community. Over the years we've found our mission trips to be a great time of reward. They are always centered on our mission at Grace and thus always have a spiritual focus.
As you know though, when sharing God's grace it is inevitably social as well which is a great way to keep young adults coming back. One thing that seems to surprise folks who don't interact with high school youth often is that these kids are highly interested in service and issues of justice. They want to serve but they want the service to be authentic. Not just doing dishes after an adult event but really serving where there is need within the church and community. Last year's trip dealt with issues of rural poverty and our kids were surprised by the racial issues they dealt with in what we expected to be a primarily Caucasian enviroment.
This year we are traveling to Milwaukee, only a stone's throw away but still a world so entirely different from our own. Here we are sure to see urban poverty and issues that surround this environment. Next year we will travel to New Orleans to see just how far that area has come with regard to rebuilding a large and musical city. It is our understanding that there is much still to be done and this surrounds the issue of justice...Jesus, Justice, & Jazz.
Who are Grace Youth Group?
The Grace High School Youth Group is a strong, active and growing collection of youth that brings many diverse interests, gifts and talents to the group as a whole. To further capitalize on the tremendous potential within our youth group, monthly events, activities, projects, periodic retreats and trips are continuously planned and implemented. We look forward to our annual summer trips, monthly events, lock-ins, service opportunities and fundraising activities.
The high school youth also meets every Sunday
morning during the school year at Youth Forum for discussions and topics relating to
issues, concerns and interests of our group. During this meeting
time, the group often participates in activities and assists
with the shaping of future youth events. Click here for the Social Calendar.
Join us on Sundays during the school year at 9:45 in the parlor for Youth Forum, a time to talk about real life issues facing youth and the world today. Sometimes we meet at Java Junction at the Woodstock Train Station, so check with Youth Directors Deb and Jay Fuller for our schedule.
