“What A Wonderful Church To
Serve Our Living God….”Pastor Terry Dufur

Greetings,
My name is Terry Dufur and I will be serving Grace Lutheran Church as Interim Pastor for the next stage
of your transition period. I am awed at the work of Pastors Dell and Frances Olson who preceded me. I
pray that God will enable me to carry on the work that they have done here with the class and integrity
worthy of their ministry.
I have recently made myself available to our Bishop to serve as Interim Pastor by retiring from Grace Lutheran
Church in Richmond. I served there for the past 32 years. Grace, Richmond was founded as a
mission of Grace, Woodstock in 1938. This occurred after many years of missionary and pastoral care to
the people of Richmond by the pastors and people of Grace, Woodstock. In a very real and deep sense,
we have been related all these years.
I have a wonderful wife, Donna whom makes our home in Spring Grove. My Son, P.J. is a Spanish teacher
at Downers Grove South High School. He also coaches football. He and his lovely wife Ali made us
grandparents for the first time last December with the birth of Avery Elizabeth. My daughter, Elizabeth
is a manager for Dress Barn, currently working at the Huntley store. Both P.J. and Elizabeth share my
enthusiasm for the Chicago Bears. With P.J.’s season tickets we plan to share many tail gating
get-togethers this season. (Yes, yes, I know. Our Defense really needs help and Orton is still unproven.)
It is my privilege to be here with you during this time of calling a new Senior Pastor. It calls upon each
of us to open our arms and hearts and minds a bit wider to one another. I encourage you to use this
period as a time to reflect, not upon what your want or what you like or dislike or what you need. Take
this time, which God has given us to reflect upon all that blesses us. What a wonder to live in this great
country. What a wonderful community to raise our children or retire. What a wonderful church in
which to serve our loving God. I know there are cracked beams and real human beings in this church.
We must wait until we enter Paradise. With all the faults and shortcomings taken into account; only
foolish people waste their lives dwelling on negatives.
The life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus freed us to be grateful, thankful people. I for one am
grateful and thankful to be with you beginning October 14. Life is good, isn’t it?
